Auction #123 has an exciting line up of collectible titles, including:

Lot 1: Sanuto (Livio), GEOGRAFIA... Venice, 1588. First Edition. Reserve: $15,000

Livio Sanuto (c.1520–1576) was a Venetian cosmographer, mathematician, and globe maker who aimed to create an accurate world atlas with his brother Giulio. He focused on Africa, producing descriptive text and 12 detailed maps. Although he died in 1576 before completing other regions, his Geografia, published posthumously in 1588, offered an exceptional and detailed account of sixteenth-century African geography. Despite delays and limited interest in Africa compared to the Americas and East, his work was praised for its precision.

Lot 2: Ovington (John), A VOYAGE TO SURATT, IN THE YEAR, 1689. London, 1696. First Edition. Reserve: $2,500

John Ovington (1653–1731) was an English priest and East India Company chaplain best known for his travel narrative A Voyage to Surat in the Year 1689. His account, based on a two-and-a-half-year stay in India, offers vivid descriptions of Bombay as morally corrupt and detailed observations of Surat’s Mughal culture, Hindu and Parsi traditions, and the role of Muslim fakirs. He praised tea drinking, which drew criticism from Alexander Hamilton. His insights into the English trading post in Surat are especially valued, and his writing is noted for being particularly engaging and witty among contemporary travel accounts.

Lot 16: Tolkien (J.R.R.), THE LORD OF THE RINGS (Three Volume Set in original slip covers). London, 1962-63. First Edition: 13th, 10th & 9th respectively. Reserve: $3,000.
